A local volunteer with the Red Cross is back home in the Rochester area after helping out in the tornado-stricken Midwest.

Winnie Romeril of Wheeler in Steuben County helped out in Henryville, Indiana. The town was hit by an EF4 tornado last week, killing at least eight people there.

Romeril says it looked like a bomb had gone off in the area.

"People were in shock the first few days I got there. It was very cold and overcast and their lives were strewn in trees. You know, tornadoes take people's belongings over into different counties and most of these things they'll never recover, but they were glad to have their lives, those that survived," said Romeril.

Romeril is a national public affairs correspondent for the American Red Cross. She's been a volunteer for 17 years.
